Theme page 11. The DSB, the TSB and sleeping, insomnia and other sleep disorders

To be able to fall asleep and be sound asleep the body has to be relaxed enough so that it can also recover from any strain properly during the sleep. There are disturbing factors connected with e.g. your way of life, physical or mental stress or health that can cause bad sleep or insomnia. It's obvious that the DSB is directly or indirectly involved in problems with sleep. The more the body is tensed the more difficult it can be to find a comfortable position to fall asleep and the more likely it is that the sleep is interrupted by the increased level of alertness caused by adrenaline. It also worsens the quality of sleep: you sleep restlessly and despite a long sleep you may be tired when you should wake up.  Because of oversensitive auditory perception even the tiniest noise may wake you up.

Problems with sleep tend to increase with aging. It's often thought that elderly people need less sleep. However, it isn't the case; it's the DSB that disturbs sleep more with years. Narrowness in the nasal meatus often causes snoring. It may also be due to dry mucous membranes in the nose or a wrong position of the head and neck which presses the chin too near the breast. Sleep apnea is a combination of loud snoring, restless sleep and interrupted breathing which decreases the amount of oxygen in the body. This sleep disorder causes headache and tiredness in the daytime and distracts memory. The position of the body during the sleep may strain a certain canal or part of the canal in the sense of balance where there are more problems with calcium stones and so e.g. breathing muscles may be tensed more than in the upright position of the body.

Repeated insomnia or bad sleep which occurs between regular intervals is the most common human experience that man has been able to connect with the influence of the Moon. Now that the role of the sense of balance in the human body is better known we can understand the underlying mechanisms. Continuous insomnia with only a couple hours of sleep a day is a sign of a serious DSB and predisposes the body to several health issues unless the TSB is started early enough.
